I mentioned the OCD poet Neil Hilborn earlier in my project. His impressively inspiring poem about suffering from OCD whilst being in love and dealing with the problems that came along with that has inspired many to follow the poet route as a form of expression. Since looking at the OCD Awareness Week and the poems submitted into that I wanted to recap myself upon Neil's work and especially his poem about OCD because there were valid points that I noticed earlier on that I then drifted away from. I will look back over his OCD poem and analyse the verses and see what I can get out of it.
The repetition is definitely a main thing throughout the poem as well as a factor that I seemed to have come across a lot over the few weeks of working on this project. The poem suggests that his love for this girl was stronger than his OCD, love wasn't a cure it just made his OCD worth while and bearable because when he acted out his compulsions, at first, she liked it. Throughout the poem she has affected his OCD and at the end of the poem it suggests that even though she's not there anymore she is still affecting him as he leaves the door unlocked and leaves the light on even though it pains him to do so, just to ease his mind that she will come back to him. The poem is deep, meaningful, emotional, genuine and intense, even more so when watching Neil reading it out. Neil really does find the right words to describe how he feels about OCD and his love for her. I'll keep looking back at this poem and my analysis of it and see where that can take me later on in the project.
